Defense Mechanisms and Coping Strategies in Counseling - 6 hours - $50.00
PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
The focus of this training will be to examine conscious coping strategies and
unconscious defense mechanisms as responses to client stress, and their
implications in the counseling process. The training will assist professional
counselors in the identification of specific maladaptive defense mechanisms, as
well as distinguishing healthy coping behaviors exhibited by clients.
COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course presents a programmed training module that examines common defense
mechanisms and coping responses. Following an introduction to analytic theory
and terminology definitions, a thorough review of each mechanism and strategy
is presented through the use of detailed case vignettes. These case vignettes
delineate a diverse mixture of scenarios that can be useful in clinical
situations, as well as specific clinical suggestions. The post-test will be the
final task for the student and the final grade is reached by achieving a
minimum grade of 75 percent. The student will then be given a critique of the
workbook tasks along with any recommendations.
