Goals & Objectives of Education Offering

PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
This comprehensive training is designed to provide the counselor with a broad base of knowledge specific to common drugs of abuse and misuse. Categories of various agents, both illicit and over-the-counter, will be presented in detail. The training will provide factual and necessary information useful in the counseling and treatment of the drug addicted client.


COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course is presents via a programmed learning module and is applicable to clinicians in both inpatient or outpatient settings. The pretest will help determine areas understanding and those areas requiring a refresher or new knowledge. Completion of the programmed workbook will then follow, presenting a detailed examination of the various drugs of abuse, including cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants, opiates, PCP, rohypnol, ketamine hydrochloride, and others. Modes of use, mechanisms for action, and risks with use, are presented for each drug. The post-test will be the final task for the student and the final grade is reached by achieving a minimum grade of 75 percent.


EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
1. Counselor will recall the mechanism of action for the major drugs of abuse.
2. Counselor will identify the methods of use for common drugs of abuse.
3. Counselor will recognize the physiological effects caused by common drugs of abuse.
4. Counselor will understand common street names for frequently abused drugs.
