PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
The purpose of this workbook is to help readers develop sensitivity to the
ethical aspects of their work as counselors. It may be useful to students in
ethics courses or professional counselors who wish to keep abreast of changing
moral and ethical issues. Through discussion of major ethical issues,
professionals will be better prepared in their own decision-making in specific
situations.
COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course is presented in a programmed-learning module addressing ethical
concepts in behavioral healthcare settings for certified or licensed counseling
professionals, emphasizing the impact of technology and changing times on the
delivery of ethical counseling practice. A pretest will determine areas of
understanding and those areas requiring a refresher or new knowledge.
Completion of the programmed workbook will follow with an examination of the
technological impact on clinical practice and resulting ethical conduct in the
21st century. Additional themes will address the managed care impact on
counseling and ethical conduct and the role of counselor competence. The open
book post-test will be the final task for the student and the final grade is
reached by achieving a minimum grade of 70 percent. A course evaluation will be
administered prior to issuance of the completion certificate, soliciting any
comments or recommendations for improvement.

conduct.
2. Recall the precautions with advertising and marketing one's practice.
3. Understand the different types of Internet technology and web-based
counseling.
4. Recognize the four types of acculturation.
5. Describe several key concerns related to dual relationships.
6. Name the steps in the ethical decision-making model.
