Goals & Objectives of Education Offering

PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
This home-study course is designed to provide participants with the fundamentals for understanding gambling problems in the U.S. This information will encompass an overview of the public policies for the treatment and control of gambling, an examination of the epidemiology of gambling across many diverse groups, theoretical frameworks, assessment and intervention methods, and an understanding of the available research.

This training is not approved in Idaho.


COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course emphasizes a complex and heterogeneous view of gambling and treatment, which is consistent with a biopsychosocial view of behavioral health. It provides an overview of gambling problems focusing on the unique knowledge, values, and skills used to identify and rehabilitate those affected by gambling problems and to prevent gambling-related social problems.The workbook is fashioned in such a way that questions necessary to pass the post test are imbedded within the training content. This style of learning has shown to improve retention and recall. The post-test is the final task for the student and the final grade is contingent upon achieving a grade of greater than 70% on the open book test. The student will then complete an evaluation of the workbook tasks along with any recommendations.

1. Learn current concepts and models of problem gambling their development
2. Learn the biopsychosocial effects of gambling problems on individuals and families
3. Become aware of the epidemiology of gambling problems
4. Understand the impact of social policies on gambling and gambling problems
5. Know the signs and symptoms of gambling problems for early identification and intervention
6. Be aware of the implications of the various models of gambling problems regarding etiology and treatment approaches
7. Become knowledgeable about the range of gambling treatment services
8. Learn about the impact of parental gambling problems on children
9. Learn about the legal and ethical issues involved in the problem gambling field
10. Become knowledgeable about the impact of co-morbid MH and SA disorders on problem gambling intervention and treatment options
