Goals & Objectives of Education Offering

PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
This home study module is framed to furnish the student with a current understanding of the HIV and AIDS syndrome/complex. Given the prevalence and pervasive spread of this virus, it is imperative that addiction setting employees be literate with this knowledge and to demonstrate understanding in their clinical practice. It is hoped that the student will gain a heightened appreciation relevant to facts versus myths associated with the disease and to disseminate this information to clients, families and the general public.

COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course identifies definitions, contributory factors, the course and treatment of the disease as well as critical prevention interventions useful to the student on a personal and professional level. The student is given in-depth explanations for complex terms associated with this disease and information about the course and progress of HIV and AIDS. A pretest is given to determine areas of liabilities with the students understanding of the HIV/AIDS syndrome as well identifying knowledge areas that can be reinforced. The student is then asked to read and highlight the workbook requirements, completing all questions. The workbook tasks assume a programmed learning interface that can maximize retention of material covered. The post-test is the final task for the student and the final grade is reached by achieving a grade of >75% on this exam. The student will then be given a course evaluation to critique the workbook tasks along with any recommendations.
