The AIDS Rollercoaster: Counseling the HIV Client- 6 hours - $50.00
PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
This training module will address counseling issues specific to clients with
HIV/AIDS. It will focus on the continuum of emotional issues, grief, and loss
from the point of initially learning of infection to the preparation for death.
The material will provide the counselor with a better understanding of the
different stages of grief associated with this disease and provide direction
for planning care.
COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course presents a programmed learning module in the area of grief and loss
associated with HIV/AIDS disease progression and is applicable to counseling
professionals in inpatient or outpatient settings. The pretest will identify
the counselor's knowledge base, strengths, and liabilities. Completion of the
programmed workbook will follow. The workbook presents a detailed examination
of concepts and terms, specific phases of grief, loss, and death and dying, and
clinical implications for counseling professionals. The post test will be the
final task, and the final grade is reached by achieving a minimum score of 70
percent.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
1. Counselor will describe the Jean Jasmine's (2000) model of the grief spiral.
2. Counselor will understand the treatment concerns for the person with AIDS.
3. Counselor will identify the components of a Personal Document preparation.
4. Counselor will recall issues related to final disclosure.
5. Counselor will recognize issues related to the final months of living with
AIDS.
