Goals & Objectives of Education Offering

PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
This descriptive course is designed to provide the addiction counselor with useful information specific to the supervision/supervisory process. The goal of this training is to teach the skills necessary for effective supervision and where one can locate resources as supervisors and supervisee's. Models of supervision are also introduced with practical applied examples.


COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course is presented in a programmed learning module and provides a detailed examination of the current information available on clinical supervision. Attention is given to the format to be thought provoking in the style of the question being introduced before the content. Additionally, there are case examples and clinical situations to maintain interest and stimulate retention while using the Socratic style of learning. The workbook contains tasks and questions intended to be completed by the student. A pre and posttest examination is administered as a means of evaluation. The posttest and the course evaluation are the final task for the student and a passing grade is achieved with a minimum grade of 75%. A training evaluation is a requirement and must be submitted with the posttest to receive the certificate of completion.


EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
1. Counselor will learn the purpose and meaning of supervision
2. Counselor will understand the role of supervision and how this process assists in the challenges of working in the addictions arena.
3. Counselor will identify terms such as therapeutic boundaries as a means of understanding what responsibilities belong to the supervisor and what is the responsibility of the supervisee.
4. Counselor will be introduced to the Socratic style of learning and how it relates to the addiction professional.
5. Counselor will recall the different models of the supervisory process.
6. Counselor will recognize specific issues that often arise when supervising an addiction professional.
