Addiction Based Treatment Planning

PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION:
This course is designed to provide the student with a firm understanding of
treatment plan construction in addiction treatment settings. It will provide
both didactic information as well as the opportunity to construct treatment
plans that reflect congruency and thoroughness with content. This material is
critical in an age of managed care and the necessity for competent
documentation and illustrating medical necessity.
COURSE CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION:
This course addresses the area of treatment planning in addiction treatment
settings, whether inpatient or outpatient. A pretest is given to determine
areas of liabilities with the students understanding of treatment planning, as
well as identifying areas of strength. The student is then asked to read and
highlight the workbook reading requirements. The content includes a brief
historical perspective with treatment planning as well as the impact of health
care changes on the treatment planning process. Following this are detailed
descriptions of the essential ingredients in most treatment plans, including
long and short term goals, objective statements, and detailed interventions.
The student is then challenged to complete a series of workbook tasks. These
tasks will identify their level of understanding of the material reviewed as
well as their ability to assimilate the learned material into direct treatment
plan construction. The post-test is the final task for the student and the
final grade is reached by achieving a grade of >75% on the post-test.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:
As indicated above, the workbook readings and assigned tasks constitute the
bulk of the training needs, as well as the instructors in-depth critique and
feedback. A brief bibliography is included to provide additional resources for
the student in the area of treatment planning.
